August 2020

Which albums am I currently listening to? What has been playing lately in my car or from my computer/tablet?
  • Pink Floyd - 1970 Devi/ation, 1971 Reverber/ation, and 1972 Obfusc/ation
The box set The Early Years has also been split into individual releases, and 1970-1972 was a very interesting transitional period for the Floyd, moving from straight psychedelia (if any psychedelia can be considered straight) into more orchestrated longer form music (call it prog or whatever you want - I have found that they are somewhat hard to categorize, which I truly like). Atom Heart Mother and Echoes are the two longer songs - or suites, really, that are the centerpieces of these three albums, and I have truly enjoyed hearing how their songs developed in this period.
  • Fiona Apple - Fetch The Bolt Cutters
It is difficult to imagine that a better album will be released this year. It is weird, it is wonderful - it really is Fiona Apple...
  • Opeth - Deliverance
What a great album. The title track alone is one of the best metal songs ever, and I finally pulled the album back out and played it over and over again... It is one of those times that I am cycling back to some of the great music I love but haven't listened to in a while...
  • Faith No More - Angel Dust
Although The Real Thing really was what I listened to the most when FNM were in their heyday, it is Angel Dust I find myself returning to, over and over again. It is an insane album, but man, how I love it...
  • Imperial Triumphant - Alphaville
Wow. My mind is blown by Imperial Triumphant. It can't really be on in the background - there is far too much happening for that, but this is a great album. So far my favorite metal release of 2020.
